I-League: Aizawl looking to hit winning momentum

Aizawl FC will look to make it two wins in two matches as they take on Indian Arrows in their I-League encounter at the Naihati Stadium near Kolkata on Sunday afternoon.

The Yan Law-coached side lost their opening four encounters but came back from a goal down to beat Sudeva Delhi in their last match by scoring two goals in the dying minutes of the game. It was a much-needed victory for the former I-League champions, who had a forgettable campaign last season and are currently placed in the 12th spot in the 13-team table

To make sure their campaign doesn't end in a whimper like last time, they will have to put on an impressive show from here on and finish among the top-seven teams after the first part of the tournament.

For a start, they will have to better their defence. They have conceded as many as 11 goals in five matches and speaking during a virtual press conference on Saturday, coach Law reiterated that the team will have to stop conceding silly goals.

Aizawl's backline is chiefly manned by the foreign duo of Robert Primus and Bakhtiyor Kalandarov and they will have to up their showing, along with the rest of the defenders, to make sure the team doesn't let in the easy goals.

However, the coach is so far pleased with the way their forwards have performed. He was happy with the way they fought back in the last match. However, it's high time that Dipanda Dicka, who missed the first couple of matches after the restart since he was in quarantine, finds his touch. He did score one against Roundglass Punjab but it was from the spot.

Meanwhile, the team will be without Willis Plaza because of injury once again. Not only Plaza but Aizawl will be missing a host of other players as they face off against the young Arrows, who have lost one, won one and drawn two of their fixtures.
