'I impulsively dyed my wedding dress black - people accused me of losing my mind'

A newlywed bride has divided her followers on TikTok after she decided to dye her wedding dress black before a Friday the 13th wedding. Alyssa Johns, 24, took to the video-sharing app to show what she was doing to her very traditional white, satin wedding dress.

Since the posting, the clip has received more than 12,000 comments and over three million likes as many flock to find out what happened to the dress - with some accusing the bride of "losing her mind".

Alyssa said: "I've always wanted to wear black on my wedding day but when I couldn’t find a black dress I loved, I decided to dye my dress.

"When I told my parents I was dyeing my dress, they asked me a few times if I was sure and reminded me how beautiful it was white/ivory.

"But they came to the conclusion that this is who I am, I make impulse decisions often."

It was not so much the act itself which raised questions for her parents, however.

The a local home daycare provider from Ohio, US, explained: "It was the process and my confidence in this process that shocked them. My friends found out via TikTok and were as shocked as the public!

"The negative feedback didn’t bug me! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! But I don’t think I was prepared for the amount of cyber bullies that I encountered.

"Brand new my dress was priced at £1400. I spent less than £50 to alter my dress appearance."

In the now viral clip, the woman shows off the dress before going through the transformation on camera which has stunned many viewers.

One person commented: "It was beautiful as a white dress but black it doesn't looks like a dress is more like a big curtain."

While another wrote: "Just buy a black dress please."

But a third person went further and penned: "I have no intention of being 'that person' but why would you do this right before your wedding?"

Thankfully the transformation went according to plan and the bride had no regrets for the big day.

No matter what anyone says, the bride loved her final look for the big day, adding: "It [the dress] was beautiful. I was in love and didn’t want to take it off!

"I wore a black veil and a tiara and super sparkly heels! We didn’t take a spooky route but a very elegant, dark & moody route! I absolutely would recommend making your wedding your own.

"It’s a day for you and your significant other to remember.

"Have fun with your wedding day make memories and don’t feel obligated or pressured to follow traditions."
