Freshly baked scones with lashings of cream and jam, delicate cakes and pastries with a pot of tea is just the recipe for a Mother’s Day treat. And Patisserie Valerie has got you covered without even needing to leave the house.
During the pandemic, afternoon tea delivery searches went through the roof, and quickly became the postal gift of choice to celebrate occasions.
But it looks like they’re here to stay, making them one of the tastiest ways to show your mum how much you appreciate her.

Handcrafted by Patisserie Valerie’s skilled master bakers, the Madame Valerie’s Afternoon Tea for two costs £32.95 , and features the bakery’s signature patisserie in miniature form.
And as if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a tin of afternoon tea, with four scones, jam and clotted cream.
Inside the box there were 12 little cakes, including two red velvet slices, two vanilla cheesecakes, two tiramisu slices and two strawberry flavoured slices. There were also two coffee eclairs and two mini strawberry and cream choux.
The contents were slightly different to what’s included on the website, which says the box features two Mini Madame Valerie Slice, two mini strawberry gateau slices, two mini double chocolate slices and two mini black forest slices with two mini strawberry and cream choux and two mini Chocolate Eclair.

Luckily, my dad was able to identify the coffee cakes before my mum ate them, as she’s allergic to coffee - which could have seen a bit of a Mother’s Day disaster.
He very kindly took them off our hands, leaving us with the strawberry, cheesecake and red velvet slices to enjoy safely.
As I don’t own a tiered cake stand that afternoon tea is typically served on, I grabbed a gold decorative tray to place the cakes on instead.
With a big mug of tea, we enjoyed our scones with strawberry preserve and Rodda’s clotted cream - the best brand, in my opinion. The scones are on the smaller side, but are well baked and not dry, and frankly, just enough to leave room for cake.
I like that you get two of each flavour scone, both fruity and plain, to give customers a choice, and there is plenty of jam and cream included.
The patisserie cakes were the showstoppers though. I particularly enjoyed the red velvet slices, which were incredibly sweet, moist and creamy.

The cheesecake slices were so tall, I actually struggled to take a bite! The ratio of biscuit base to cream cheese was potentially a little off and needed a bit more biscuit, but the cream cheese topping was fluffy and light, melting in the mouth.
While we couldn’t eat the coffee-infused products, it didn’t matter much at all, as it was far too much food for just two people and could easily have been split between four.
That said, the choux buns were a delight, so I’m sure the eclairs would be just as delicious if you are a fan of coffee.
Patisserie Valerie’s Mother’s Day range is available to pre-order from March 3 to 20, with deliveries made on or before Mother’s Day, on March 27.
Large cakes are available online for nationwide delivery and via Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat.
