"I finally tried 'Greater Manchester's best burger'. Part of me wishes I hadn't"

If someone told you they'd eaten the best burger in Greater Manchester, your thoughts would probably turn to the city centre.

But there's one place tucked away in a corner of Boothstown, Salford, where the burgers are going down a storm.

Buffalo Bar & Grill can be found at the Stansfield Shopping Centre and arrived on the scene in 2018 promising 'a taste of America'.

Since then it's had mostly rave reviews, so I decided to head there with my family on a Sunday afternoon to see what all the fuss is about.

It's only small but remarkably we were the only ones there at first so had the place to ourselves. On busier days when the weather's warmer the glass front opens right up, with extra tables out on the front too.

There's a relaxing vibe to the place, with exposed brick walls adorned with paintings of everyone from Ian Brown and Eminem, to Muhammad Ali and Cillian Murphy as Peaky Blinders' Thomas Shelby.

That theme runs into the menu too, with Porky Blinders Fries, which are skin on fries with cheese sauce, bacon, frazzles - yes frazzles - and baconnaise.

But it's largely American themed, with the Al Pacino Burger, Empire State Burger and Cluck Norris Burger just a few of the creations on the list.

I opted for the Texas Burger, £9.50, which also features frazzles, and I can honestly say it's the best burger I've ever eaten - and I've eaten a lot.

The double patty burger, with cheese, BBQ pulled pork and smoky baconnaise, would not be out of place at the likes of Almost Famous or Five Guys.

My other half was just as impressed with his spicy Al Pacino, £8.90, - double patty with cheese, chilli, coriander, chorizo, guacamole and sriracha sauce.

I can't say they weren't messy, mine was so packed with pulled pork it was slipping off, but that's hardly cause for complaint.

My youngest went for a cheese and bacon burger, £8.50, while my daughter went for the Loaded Dog sausage with pulled pork, £7.50. Both ate every bit alongside their delicious creamy Biscoff milkshakes, which I just about got a sip of.

The moreish shakes, from £5.50, are another crowd puller for this place, with a range of flavours from The Hulk Shake - Mint Aero and green sherbet topped with whipped cream - to Buffalo Shake, which is crispy M&Ms with white Maltesers and white Bueno topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.

We shared some fries and halloumi fries and both were bigger portions than we've had elsewhere - a full basket of halloumi fries in fact for £4.50 - so there was no fighting over them for once. A bit more of the sweet chilli sauce to dip them in wouldn't have gone amiss.

At just over £60 for the four of us, we felt it was well worth the £15 each, but it was good to see the offers they have running too - to get a burger, drink and fries for £10 at selected times. My teenage daughter will no doubt soon be making use of that offer with her friends.

It's not too far from us so I'm not sure why it's taken us so long to try this place out. Part of me wishes we hadn't, as now that temptation is right there on our doorstep, with the dangerous addition of Just Eat deliveries too. I think I'll keep that bit quiet from the kids.
