'I'd love to beat Rangers, we'll have a go' says Motherwell star Bevis Mugabi

Bevis Mugabi would love to be part of a Motherwell side that beats Rangers at Ibrox, and says they'll have a go on Sunday.

The Steelmen go toe-to-toe with the Scottish champions in Govan, looking for their first league win of 2022.

Trips to that part of Glasgow have been pretty good for the Steelmen in recent seasons, with 1-1 draws in their last two visits to Ibrox.

Mugabi says Motherwell were unlucky not to take all three points from that last one in September, with Kaiyne Woolery netting, and hopes they can do better this time around.

And with Motherwell slipping down the table to sixth, Mugabi is aware they need points.

He said: "There's always some sort of pressure, going into any game. We know our position in the table, and it's very tight, and it's very tight between Rangers and Celtic as well, so it's an important game for both parties.

"We just need to make sure we put in a good performance and try to get something out of the game.

"I would love to beat Rangers, I would love to.

"The last time we played them we had a good performance, drew 1-1, and could have actually nicked it, to be fair, with Tony Watt's opportunity - but it wasn't meant to be.

"Hopefully it will be the same again this Sunday.

"We will go there and have a go. We need to keep trying to hit the back of the net.

"In the stats from the last few games we've probably had more shots on goal than the team we've been playing, so we are creating chances, it's just the thing of putting them in the back of the net."

Motherwell have done well this season to be competing in the Premiership top six, and clash with Hibs in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals next month.

But Mugabi knows they need to start winning again.

He said: "It's vitally important that we start picking up points though, because that's ultimately what determines where you finish in the table.

"I'm sure with the way that we're playing, the results will come - 100 per cent.

"We had a good first half of the season, but this is the business end.

"We're in a good position at the moment, but we need to make sure we focus and make sure we put in good performances to get the three points and through to the next round of the cup."
