'I can show supporters what I'm all about' - Trevor Clarke signs new deal at Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers have agreed a deal to keep Irish fullback Trevor Clarke at the club for at least another two seasons, with an option of a third, the club have confirmed today.

Clarke, 24, joined the Gas on a one-year deal following his departure from Rotherham United last summer and made his debut against Mansfield Town in August 2021.

Unfortunately, the defender had an injury-hit first season in the quarters, making just nine appearances as Rovers earned promotion out of League Two with a famous win on the last day of the season, but manager Joey Barton believes Clarke's full potential can now be unlocked as the club look to hit the ground running in League One.

Barton said: "Trevor had a tough year last year but showed enormous character to overcome those challenges and provided an impact towards the closing stages of the season.

“Now, with a full pre-season behind him, I think he’ll show his full potential."

Clarke began his career with a spell in the Middlesbrough Academy before a four-season spell with Shamrock Rovers back in his native Dublin. His form in Ireland earned him a move to Rotherham in 2019 where he made 21 appearances, nine of those coming in the Sky Bet Championship before moving to the Gas.

Clarke added: "I am delighted to get this over the line.

"It was tough at times last year with injuries. I just couldn't seem to get going but I'm fully fit now and can't wait to get the new season started so I can show supporters what I'm all about.

"Those last couple of weeks of the season are amongst my top football moments and securing promotion with this set of lads was brilliant.

"I've experienced League One before, and won promotion with Rotherham, so I'm looking forward to a good season."
