I bought a £2.59 Greggs ‘magic bag’ and got three different lunches

Everybody loves a trip to Greggs, and let’s be honest, you can never leave the place without getting a couple of treats.

When I saw that Greggs were on the Too Good To Go app, I was beyond excited. I tried for weeks to get an order placed but it proved very difficult due to its sheer popularity.

Whenever I checked the app. I’d just missed the Greggs order, so I set an alarm on my phone at 7:15pm one evening to remind me to make an order (yes, I’m that sad) and I managed to finally get one. Hooray!

Magic bags are managed by app ‘Too Good To Go’ and are all the rage at the moment. The app sees food venues sell their leftovers at the end of the day for a cheaper price. The best part is, the contents of the bag is a total mystery until you collect them.

My recent collections from Starbucks and Toby Carvery were fairly successful, and I was really hoping I could get third time lucky with one of my favourite quick and easy food spots, Greggs. Here’s what I got.

The bag

I wasn’t too sure what to expect with my Greggs order, but I sure as hell hoped to get some of their infamous sausage rolls in my bag, and much to my delight, I did. In fact, I got four of them, so you can imagine how elated I was.

The four sausage rolls came in a pack along with a fresh chicken and bacon baguette, two cookies and one chicken and bacon pasta pot. Pretty successful if you ask me.

They were so fresh too (Emily Sleight/ Liverpool ECHO)

The sausage rolls had that gorgeous golden colour that they always do, and tasted incredibly fresh even the day after I got the bag. In terms of the baguette, it still tasted pretty spot on, but the baguette was beginning to go a little stale on the edges which wasn’t a massive problem.

For just £2.59, I’d say this magic bag was of incredible value, and saved the wasting of food in the process. I basically got three different lunches and a dessert for less than £3, so I was really impressed.

The verdict

I’m yet to have a bad magic bag. I’d go as far to say this was the best one I’ve had so far - which could be because of my love for sausage rolls.

For those who are after a quick and easy bit of food for an affordable price whilst also minimising food waste, I’d really recommend getting this app. I was so impressed with the amount of food for the price, and the quality too.
