‘I asked the employee and they confirmed’: Dollar Tree customer finds $1.25 Halloween decoration. Then she pulls back the red sticker

A customer has a bone to pick with Dollar Tree for what she believes is shady stickering.

In a TikTok with 6,236 views, Taylor Halprin (@taylorhalprin) shows a small Halloween decoration in her hand. The tag reveals that the item is $1.25, but Halprin says this won’t be the case for long. As the video progresses, she moves her finger, revealing that the $1.25 price had been hidden under a circular red sticker.

“[Expletive] dollar tree for continuing to up the prices,” she writes in an on-screen caption. She adds, “It’s going up to $1.50 y’all … I haven’t been in a while bc this economy sucks and I wanted to check out Halloween decor. And every dollar sign in store is covered! Everything’s going up!”

‘Then why doesn’t the red dot on top have the 1.50?’

In the comments section, a viewer doubted price hikes were on the horizon. Halprin explained her assumption that the sticker didn’t say the new price because Dollar Tree is waiting for new labels, so it’s using blank ones in the meantime. The commenter said Halprin shouldn’t assume, but she rebutted.

“I’m not saying it’s raised yet!” Halprin wrote. “But I asked the employee and they confirmed it’s going up to 1.50 along with everything else, hope this helps.”

A second viewer had a plea for customers. “I work at dollar tree please don’t peel off the stickers, the stockers get in trouble and the managers have to do a price reset at the register and it just impacts the people who arent in control of the price,” they said.

Halprin confirmed that she waited until she purchased the item and brought it home before peeling back the sticker.

Are Dollar Tree prices really going up?

According to Business Insider, yes. It states that some items costing $1.25 will be increased to $1.50, and some stores are covering up the old price with red stickers in preparation. It also notes that Dollar Tree said earlier it would consider raising prices in response to Trump’s tariffs.

BI writes, “CEO Michael Creedon said on an earnings call earlier this month that Dollar Tree wasn’t planning to raise prices across the board in response to the tariff costs. Instead, he said, the chain would be ‘strategic,’ including by adding more products that cost more than $1.25.”

The outlet was unable to determine how many stores would be seeing price increases, and Dollar Tree did not respond to questions about changing prices.

Anecdotally, I can say the price increases have already hit Florida. As I was shopping for foaming dish cleaner at my local Dollar Tree (a thrifty alternative to Dawn’s Powerwash spray), I was dismayed to see the stickers and the new $1.50 price of several products in the home section. Halprin’s testimony only confirms what I already suspected.
