'I am Britain's dullest man - I wear the title like a badge of honour'

A man who has been dubbed "Britain's dullest man" has said he wears the title like a "badge of honour" because he's proud of his passions - including roundabouts and car parks.

Kevin Beresford was given the title in 2018 after he was named Anorak of the Year by the Dull Men's Club, which is a collective of people who "find joy in the mundane".

The man initially rose to fame when the print shop he runs in Redditch created a calendar for customers based around the local area and decided to create Roundabouts of Redditch "for a laugh" - and had the item featured on The Graham Norton Show, which "changed his life".

Kevin told The Guardian that he ended up selling copies of the calendar around the world, and was later approached by a publisher to write a book called Roundabouts of Great Britain, which he sold 20,000 copies of on its first run.

He was then approached by the AA to do the same for car parks and published a book titled Parking Mad: Car Parks from Heaven (or Hell), as well as a calendar named Car Parks of Britain.

Kevin has since established himself as the president of the UK Roundabout Society and the founder of the Car Park Appreciation Society - but says he doesn't like to use the word "obsessed" to describe his hobbies, as he prefers "passionate".

He said: "People say I’m obsessed, but that feels derogatory. I prefer 'passionate'.

"In truth, I don’t think I’m dull. It’s my hobbies that are dull. I’m actually full of surprises: I’m a fan of trance music and went clubbing last weekend. In February, I spent my 70th birthday in Malaga with two buddies."

Martin aims to make 10 calendars a year, and other fan favourites include a Benches of Redditch calendar and a hilarious take on footballer calendars titled The Wonderful World of Jack Grealish's Calves 2022 - which was his best seller last year.

The man admitted that his four sons are "embarrassed" by his hobbies and his three ex-wives all found him "dull" too - but he believes his hobbies have helped keep him alive through his semi-retirement.

And he still meets up with his friends in the Dull Men's Club once a year.

He added: "I’m semi-retired, and these hobbies have kept me alive. I meet up with the Dull Men’s Club once a year; it’s amazing how charismatic we are when we all get together. And I wear my Britain’s dullest man title as a badge of honour."
