Thorium is the next material tier after Iron and both can be found plentifully in the same location which is the desert. I'll show you how to get it as well as the best farming spots and uses. Here's my guide on the Hytale Thorium Ore locations and farming.
How to Find Thorium in Hytale
Thorium Ore is most commonly found in the desert biomes which usually spawn in the southern parts of your map. I recommend grabbing a horse and heading south looking for deserts. Specifically, in the desert biome you want to look for the Golden Steps and Badlands sub-biomes and then for natural dune, hill, cliff and ravine formations made of the Sandstone block. Thorium can be found on the sides of these Sandstone formations. You can also find Thorium beneath the desert biome in naturally formed caves. You can mine it with any Pickaxe including the starting one.

Tip: The desert is also one of the best places to look for Iron which is also found on the sides of Sandstone hill/cliff formations and in caves.
Hytale Thorium Farming Spots
There are two main ways to farm Thorium and these are:
- Searching for it in the desert biomes on the sides of Sandstone cliffs, ravines and hills as well as caves.
- Going to Volcanic Islands which are in open bodies of water and defeating the larger undead mobs there which drop it.
- You can also find it randomly in chests while exploring but this isn’t the most reliable method.
Either way you go to farm Thorium, make sure to bring at least a Copper weapon and plenty of food to heal. I also recommend a horse for reaching locations faster and a chest you can place before farming to put your Thorium in just in case you die. You can move the chest around as you descend into caves and vice versa. Once you have enough, I recommend crafting better weapons and armor with it but not necessarily tools since you can use the Iron Pickaxe for everything up to Adamantite.
