Husband wins $2million after scooping lottery jackpot TWICE in one week

A lucky husband has won the lottery prize twice in one week after forgetting to purchase tickets the previous week.

The couple won the two division one prizes on the Monday Lotto and awarded $2million Australian dollars (£1.1m) for two identical tickets that scored $1million each.

The husband, from Dapto, just south of Wollongong, in Australia, explained that he had upset his wife the previous week after he forgot to purchase the lottery ticket for the previous draw.

He bought two tickets with the same numbers that his wife had been using for decades, to make it up to her.

He told Lotto: "My wife has played these numbers for almost three decades and has always said they'd be drawn one day."

Excitedly checking the results on Tuesday morning, his wife did not know that her husband had bought an identical ticket.

"Lo and behold, this morning she kept crossing off number after number on her ticket, and once we realised we'd won $1million on one ticket, I thought I should probably tell her about the second identical ticket too," he said.

His wife confessed that she was screaming once she had found out they had won $1million and almost fell unconscious after her husband revealed they had doubled their money with the duplicate ticket.

"I can't believe this has happened to us," the husband said.

The lucky millionaires shared that they will be using the money to support their family and go on a holiday, and admitted they do not need money to be happy.

"It won't take much to make us happy," the wife said.

"I can buy my daughter a house, I can set up the children and grandchildren for the future.

"Once we've done that, then we can enjoy whatever is left.

"I'd love to travel around Australia and see all the parts of our country I haven't seen."

The news comes as just yesterday it was reported that a group of three friends who created a syndicate while at college won £1million from a special EuroMillions draw.

Alex Gwynne, 28, Dan Phillips, 25, and Kyle Bowen, 25, started playing six years ago when a group in the year above them at Coleg y Cymoedd won £5,000 on The National Lottery .

At the time, their lecturer joked that the trio should start their own syndicate, which they did, and they have been playing together ever since.

Alex, Dan and Kyle are now celebrating their lottery win following the EuroMillions European Millionaire Maker draw on February 3.

Alex said he decided to buy a few tickets for the special draw - when 100 millionaires were made in one night - through the National Lottery app.

He said he only found out about the win the following morning when he found an email about his win.
