Husband speechless after wife gives him 'genius' present before operation

A man was lost for words at the present his wife bought him ahead of his operation.

Saul Munro, from Birkenhead, apprehensively agreed to have a vasectomy after his wife Lauren decided she didn't want another child following the birth of her second in January. The 28-year-old binman became scared of the pain he would experience post-op as his appointment grew nearer, so Lauren, 28, used her "twisted sense of humour" to create a themed hamper to help ease his worries.

Lauren filled the £25 "vasectomy care package" with treats and small gifts to give to Saul on Friday, April 24, with each involving a witty pun to playfully mock his impending operation. With card and a marker pen she cleverly renamed popular chocolate bars 'vasectomy Club', 'Timeout on sex' and 'thanks for not Flake-ing out'.

The full-time mum coined other snacks 'no-ball nuts', 'don't-jerk beef jerky' and 'no jellybabies' while also adding in a mini water pistol with 'shooting blanks' written on it. Lauren even topped off her hamper with a condolence card addressed to 'Sauly No-balls' with 'sorry for your loss' written on it.

Saul said he was lost for words when he returned home from work later that evening and saw the hamper, but he's since revealed he "laughed his head off" at the gift. Lauren said it was worth every penny and is pleased it helped ease Saul's pain following his successful vasectomy the following day.

Lauren said: "We love a good pun in this house. I had so much fun making it and it was worth every penny. I wanted to show appreciation but have fun with it too. I did put some pain killers in there and snacks he really likes.

"It was ultimately his choice to get it done, so he did decide. He was apprehensive and reluctant at first, but he understood my point of view too. He was scared of the date arriving, and I'd seen gifts people had been giving to their parents for having it done. I thought of some ideas to correlate with some funny puns.

"I got some of the things I planned, like nuts, then found the mini water pistol and Time out on sex, because obviously he can't for a while. I got a real haul. My favourite part was the condolence card. I drew some sperm shapes on it and put 'to Sauly No-balls' in it.

"We've got a twisted sense of humour, so I knew he wouldn't mind. He appreciated being cheered up by it."

Lauren says she even played Jerry Lee Lewis' Great Balls of Fire on Saturday before Saul's procedure. He's currently 'taking it easy for a couple of weeks' and said the hamper helped calm his pre-op nerves.

Saul said: "I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I was worried I'd forget. You've got to do a bit of looking after them and you've got to keep them close to your body at all times. Going to the toilet you've got to keep them up and my old man said don't let them drop in the shower because you'll know about it. It was more than the procedure that bothered me.

"I have my insecurities. I'm covered head to toe in hair and I thought they might think 'wow he's hairy' or 'wow he's big'. I thought it was brilliant and laughed my head off.

"Particularly the card. It did the trick and calmed me down. I'm a sucker for puns and dark humour. I'm glad she did it."

Lauren took children Rosemary, three, and Theodore, four months, shopping for the items, so she had to give Saul the hamper a day early to avoid Rosemary spoiling the surprise. Her TikTok videos of the hamper's contents and Saul's baffled reaction have been viewed more than 700,000 times, with users hailing the idea as 'genius'.

One said: "Omg this is absolutely brilliant. I love it." Another said: "I wish I'd have done this for my man. This is awesome."

A third simply added: "This is genius."
