The husband of a woman, who was discovered with fatal head injuries in stables in Warrington, has admitted killing her.
Horse lover Ann Marie Pomphret, 49, was found at the stables on the evening of November 2 last year and died at the scene.
Her husband David Pomphret, of Masefield Drive, Winwick, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court for the first time on Tuesday via video link from Altcourse prison.
The 50-year-old pleaded not guilty to murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter due to loss of control.
Gordon Cole, QC, prosecuting, told the court that the plea was not acceptable to the Crown and a trial has been fixed to begin on September 30.
Bearded Pomphret, who is described on a LinkedIn profile as a solution architect and associate vice president for Barclays bank, was further remanded in custody until tomorrow so that further details about the trial arrangements can be discussed.
Mrs Pomphret was discovered shortly after 10.05pm on November 2 when police were called to stables in Old Alder Lane in Burtonwood.
