Hunter schools re-open after cleaning, contact tracing following COVID-19 exposure

West Wallsend and Mount Hutton public schools were slated to re-open in the Hunter on Tuesday after both were closed after students tested positive for COVID-19.

NSW Health confirmed 36 students and 14 staff as close contacts at Mount Hutton Public School, along with 17 students and 7 staff at West Wallsend Public School.

Both schools were closed on Friday as staff and students were asked to self-isolate in line with the state's public health advice. A spokesperson for NSW Education said in a statement overnight that the schools have been thoroughly cleaned in accordance with NSW Health protocols.

Mount Hutton Public School and West Wallsend Public School were among six others to re-open after COVID-19 exposure in September.
