G2 Esports’ campaign at the Esports World Cup 2025 CS2 ended early after a crushing 2-0 defeat to Team Falcons in the first round of the single-elimination tournament.
In a post-match interview with Dot Esports, G2’s IGL huNter explained what went wrong for the team. “We needed to be more decisive. We needed to kill more. I think we missed a lot of free shots, and on the T side, I think I could have done better,” the Bosnian Counter-Strike veteran said.
After going down 9-13 in the opening map of Ancient, G2 bounced back and got off to a scorching 6-0 start on Train. However, Falcons struck back hard and started taking charge, punishing G2’s lackluster T-side plays.

“We were leading 6-0 on Train. A lot of bad, bad things after that,” huNter recalled. He also admitted to some hesitation when taking on his former teammate and cousin NiKo on Ancient’s B site. “On Ancient, we had 8-7. I just think, on Ancient, we could have gone to B side more than A, but, yeah, NiKo was good on it.”
HuNter went on to share that their biggest takeaway from the loss is taking care of an advantage sustaining the momentum. “We didn’t use the momentum. We had momentum on Ancient and Train, but we didn’t use it in the proper way, and Falcons punished it.”
Nonetheless, the G2 captain did sound confident about getting better with time. “We are still a new team with a lot of new players, a new coach, and me as an IGL as well, that is new. We just need all of us to have more experience together as a team, and we’ll get better.”
With G2 now out of EWC CS2 2025, huNter said he’ll be on the sidelines cheering for former G2 stars NiKo and m0NESY, as Team Falcons take on MOUZ next in the quarterfinals on Aug. 22.
