The remark came during an upcoming episode of Newsom's programme, This Is Gavin Newsom, where the governor playfully introduced his guest as "Presidential candidate Hunter Biden."
Biden leaned into the joke, replying: "Here's the deal. I'll run, but only as your VP."
He added that the vice president's residence "is a lot cooler" than the White House.
The conversation arrives as speculation continues to swirl around Newsom's political future and whether he could run for president in 2028. Acknowledging the constant attention on the California governor, Biden quipped: "I had to give you a break for just one day."
Despite dismissing the idea of a White House run, Biden suggested he has no plans to retreat from public life. During the discussion, he said: "They gave me a stage and I'm going to use it."
The former president's son also touched on his long-running clashes with public figures including US President Donald Trump and conservative commentator Tucker Carlson.
