Hunt for road rage van driver who pushed cyclist into railing in Midlothian

Police are trying to track down a van driver who got out his vehicle and pushed a cyclist into railing during a road rage incident in Midlothian.

The incident took place in Penicuik on Saturday, June 22, around 9.30am on the A701 between the Mauricewood Road junction and the Tesco store.

Police said a "verbal altercation" broke out between the 31-year-old cyclist and the driver of a white Transit van.

The driver left his vehicle and pushed the cyclist, causing him to fall into a railing and hurt his ribs. Another driver who witnessed the row was able to help the cyclist.

Police are now urging any witnesses to come forward.

Detective sergeant Jordan Sharp from Dalkeith CID said: "The cyclist has suffered some painful injuries as a result of this incident and we are keen to trace the van driver who was involved.

"As part of this inquiry, we are keen to hear from the individuals who came to the aid of the victim so we can take statements from them and get more information as to the full circumstances of the assault.

"Similarly, we'd also urge any other members of the public who saw what happened, or who may have relevant dash-cam footage, to also contact police immediately."
