Hungover student picks apart McDonald's burger to find 'only ketamine' on label

A hungover student fearfully picked apart her veggie burger after her McDonald's order said it contained 'Only Ketamine'.

Emily Somers, 21, had been out the night before celebrating a birthday party in Leeds on June 12 when she decided to place an order for a hangover snack from McDonald's.

However, when her £4.09 veggie burger arrived, there was a handwritten label with 'only ketamin' [with the 'e' missing] scrawled across it in pen, as well as noting it contained cheese.

Emily and her boyfriend Zac Parker, 21, hoped it was a joke but they were so concerned with the note they fearfully pulled apart the burger to inspect it before she ate it.

The law student has since branded the class C drug's reference 'inappropriate' and worried what questions children would have asked if the bizarre order would have been for them.

Vegetarian Emily complained to McDonald's that day and was given a £7.50 voucher, but she called on the fast food giants to investigate.

McDonald's said they had investigated the incident and found 'nothing to suggest the box left the restaurant in this way', however they apologised to Emily for any offence caused.

Uber Eats said that their courier had confirmed it had been delivered according to their guidelines.

Emily, who lives in Headingley, Leeds, said: "When Zac noticed it, we were so confused. It was so random. It was suggesting they'd laced my burger with drugs.

"I took everything off and inspected it because I had to check to see if it had been tampered with.

"The fact it goes through the kitchen and then someone delivers it, that puts a bit of worry on your mind.

"I had a bit of a sore head after a 21st birthday party, so I was looking forward to a McDonald's.

"I took it quite well initially but then I thought what if it was a mum ordering it for a child. You can't [write] that. It's inappropriate.

"I didn't anticipate any actual ketamine being in there and understood it was probably some employee humour, but I was very apprehensive about eating it.

"There should be more quality control and an investigation into the branch and staff that were dealing with the order.

"The delivery bag was completely sealed when it arrived via the Uber Eats driver, so there's no way he could have tampered with it because it would have been ripped.

"Luckily there was no problem with the meal. I didn't have any weird side effects!"

Self-confessed fussy eater Emily suspects staff may have been mocking her 'only ketchup' order and chose to switch out the sauce's name for the class B drug.

After messaging McDonald's directly on Twitter, she tweeted an image of the box less than an hour later simply captioned 'only ketamin, sorry please explain?'.

She's confused why she received £7.50 as it doesn't amount to the £19 Uber Eats order or the value of her meal, purchased from the Kirkstall branch.

A McDonald's spokesperson said: "We have fully investigated this incident and have found nothing to suggest the box left the restaurant in this way.

"We are, of course, disappointed the customer did not have the experience they expected, and apologise for any offence caused."

Uber Eats said they had spoken to the courier involved who confirmed that he made the delivery according to their guidelines without opening or tampering with the bag.

An Uber Eats spokesperson said: "We want everyone who uses the Uber Eats platform to have the best possible experience.

"This is a concerning report and we are in contact with McDonalds to understand what happened."
