Humpback whale leaps from the water off New York coast in stunning footage

  • The footage captured the whales 25 miles south of Long Island, showcasing a vibrant marine ecosystem.
  • Researchers also observed fin whales lunging through fish schools, minke whales feeding, and dolphins riding boat bow waves.
  • The New York Bight, one of North America's busiest marine areas, is increasingly becoming a popular habitat for whales and other marine animals.
  • Dr Howard Rosenbaum of the WCS emphasised the extraordinary and growing importance of the New York Bight as a marine environment.
