Hummus shakes are the latest food and drink fad coming to Manchester

We've had freakshakes and cakeshakes - and now hummus shakes are coming to Manchester.

Popular (allegedly) with fitness-lovers in the US as an alternative to a protein shake, the blitzed chickpea, tahini and banana drink is being launched by Humpit.

The grab-and-go restaurant, whose menu centres around hummus, falafel and pita bread, has eight sites across the UK including a MediaCityUK branch at Salford Quays and another soon to open at Manchester University.

A spokesman for the company said they wanted to prove 'there is more to hummus than just being a dip'.

"Chickpeas, banana and tahina, the main ingredient in the shake, are packed with protein, fibre and essential vitamins making this the perfect addition to a healthy diet," he said.

"The 100% plant-based, super-tasty, gluten-free shake can be enjoyed by many as a pre- or post-gym treat."

The new drink, priced at £3, is available at the York branch to begin with before rolling out to all stores in the coming weeks.
