Hugo Diaz seals move to Spanish Europa League contenders following Leeds United release

Former Leeds United defender Hugo Diaz has confirmed that he has joined La Liga side Getafe following his release at Elland Road.

The versatile 22-year-old was a key part of the club's successful under-23s side last year, but fell down the pecking order behind Pascal Stuijk at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, with the club opting not to renew his expiring deal.

Diaz issued an emotional goodbye to Leeds fans last month as he thanked the fans 'for infecting me' following a campaign which saw him captain Carlos Corberan's national title winners on a number of occasions.

The Spaniard made one senior appearance for Leeds when he came off the bench at Preston North End in April 2018, but will now return to his homeland, with Getafe.

In a post on his personal Instagram, Diaz sent out pictures of himself at his new club alongside a message which says he heads to the La Liga side 'with great enthusiasm'.

Getafe, who signed Samu Saiz for a disappointing loan spell last season, finished fifth in La Liga last year and have a Europa League campaign to look forward to, while their B team play in Segunda División B.
