Hughie Fury clarifies Tyson Fury fight stance after 'destiny' comments

Hughie Fury has clarified his stance regarding a potential bout with his cousin Tyson Fury, after comments made in a recent interview were taken out of context.

The Manchester fighter is back in the ring next month in Newcastle to face Germany's Christian Hammer as he continues his quest for success in the heavyweight ranks.

Fury is determined to become champion in the division, having stated it was his 'destiny' to do so and saying he'd face whoever has the belts.

"I believe I will be the champion of the world. It is my destiny to be at the top. To become a world champion is all that's in my mind," he told Sky Sports.

"Whoever has got a belt, I want those belts. I will get through this fight, get into a mandatory position, and whoever has got a belt at the time, I'll take."

With his cousin Tyson currently holding the WBC heavyweight belt, many took this as an indication that he'd be open to a Fury vs Fury clash in the future.

However, asked directly by MEN Sport if that was a possibility, Hughie made his stance on the matter clear: “At the end of the day, it’s a circus act. I wouldn’t fight my cousin.”

Fury enters the fight against Hammer with a 25-3 record, with the defeats in his career coming against Joseph Parker, Kubrat Pulav and Alexander Povetkin, which he says has provided valuable experience.

“I’ve been in with a lot of fighters. Before it was a boy against a man, I was young, very young. I took all these fights against experienced fighters and now I’m coming of age myself and I’m ready to put that to work.

"Once you’ve got all that experience underneath you, yon can take it as a win really because you can’t buy that experience.”
