Hugh Grant posts furious Twitter rant over Boris Johnson's plan to suspend parliament: 'You will not f*** with my children's future'

Hugh Grant has issued a blistering takedown of Boris Johnsonin response to the prime minister's controversial plans to suspend parliament

The British actor branded Johnson "an over-promoted rubber bath toy" on Twitter, in a post that has garnered more than 57,000 retweets and 235,000 likes.

"You will not f*** with my children’s future," he wrote, quote-tweeting a video of Johnson explaining his plans. "You will not destroy the freedoms my grandfather fought two world wars to defend.

"F*** off you over-promoted rubber bath toy. Britain is revolted by you and you little gang of masturbatory prefects."

A furious row has been sparked after the Queen approved an order by Johnson for parliament to be "prorogued" from the second week in September until 14 October – just 17 days before the scheduled date of Brexit on Halloween.

Approval was given at a session of the Privy Council in Balmoral despite letters from Jeremy Corbyn and Jo Swinson requesting urgent meetings with the Queen to urge her to withhold it.

Opponents of a no-deal Brexit have accused Boris Johnson of a “coup” against parliament, while Commons speaker John Bercow denounced the suspension of sittings as a “constitutional outrage”. Former chancellor Philip Hammond described it as “profoundly undemocratic”.

Protesters descended on Westminster, demanding that the PM “stops the coup”. Over a million people signed a petition against prorogation.
