Huge Scottish castle with 14 bedrooms goes on sale for same price as Edinburgh flat

If you're looking to get more bang for your buck when it comes to getting on the property ladder in Edinburgh, how about instead of settling for a city centre flat, you spend the same money on a castle with its own holiday cottage and fantastic views of the coast?

Yes, really.

Stunning Kilberry Castle, which can be found just outside the village of Kilberry between Tarbert and Lochgilphead in Argyll, has hit the market and the historic 15th-century building boasts a whopping 14 bedrooms.

The historic property certainly isn't at its best standard having fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years, but sale agents Knight Frank have described how the building offer great potential for someone looking to take on a serious 'fixer-upper' job.

The castle itself features four floors filled with statement historic features including a great hallway, original open fireplaces, galleried landings, an elegant dining room, and a drawing room with sea views.

Alongside the 14 bedrooms, there's also a conservatory, a library with fitted book shelves, a billiards room with cupola as well as two bathrooms located in the turrets.

Of course it's not just about the castle, the property also comes with its very holiday cottage, large walled garden and extensive grounds.

The 'Laundry Cottage' is currently used as a holiday let and offers fabulous coastal views across to Islay and Jura, Gigha and the Mull of Kintyre.

A short walk leads to the 19th century walled garden which extends out to about 1.5 acres and was previously used for the growing of tree fruit, soft fruit, grapevines, vegetables and flowers for the castle.

Fancy getting out of the grounds? A beautiful safe, secluded beach can be accessed by foot within ten minutes over the neighbouring fields.

The castle, with all its amenities and extras, is on the market for offers over £650k - the same price as this three bedroom flat in Edinburgh's Canonmills.

The new build property is described by Knight Frank as "light and spacious thanks to the column free construction and features a high-end fully fitted kitchen, bathroom and flooring as standard."
