An atsreoid named for an Egyptian death god who was said to devour the Sun is heading towards Earth and will reach us in 2029.
The 1,100ft-wide asteroid, named Apophis, will make a 'close approach' to the Earth, according to NASA.
It is believed the asteroid will pass within 19,000miles of the Earth and will be visible to the naked eye.
NASA says it is rare for an object so big to pass by our planet, reports The Express .
Paul Chodas, director of the Center for Near Earth Objects Studies, added: “Apophis is a representative of about 2,000 currently known potentially hazardous asteroids.
"By observing Apophis during its 2029 flyby, we will gain important scientific knowledge that could one day be used for planetary defense."
