Huge applause as NHS and ambulance workers take to the Manchester Pride parade

NHS workers have received massive applause and cheers from crowds while marching through this year’s Manchester Pride parade.

The parade, which came back to the city centre for the first time since 2019, is a march for peace, highlighting the importance of peace in a world where all LGBTQ+ people are free to live and love without prejudice.

The procession from Deansgate through the city centre to Portland Street featured a number of floats from charities, organisations and local community groups, including Wickes, Aldi, TikTok, LGBT Foundation, AKT and Co-Op.

By far, the biggest cheers came when staff from the NHS marched in the parade with banners, flags and t-shirts sporting a Pride theme.

Pennine Care NHS FT took to Twitter yesterday to tease the appearance, posting: “Who's going to the #ManchesterPride parade tomorrow? Our #PennineCarePeople will be there along with colleagues from across the NHS. We can't wait! Look out for our flags and t-shirts, say hello, wave, shout, and celebrate @ManchesterPride”.

Lucy Harmer, Director of Human Resources at Oldham Care Organisation, was one of those to march with the NHS as part of the Northern Care Alliance and tweeted: “So proud to be representing #NCAfamily in today's Manchester Pride Parade!”

Paramedics from St John's Ambulance and the North West Ambulance Service, which featured an ambulance decorated with rainbow balloons, both also received huge recognition from the crowds as did staff from Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service and The British Army.

The parade also saw a selection of fabulous outfits, and the occasional appearance of doves, unicorns and glamour. It’s A Sin creator Russell T Davies was spotted marching alongside staff and volunteers at George House Trust, while BBC weatherman Owain Wyn Evans was seen marching with the LGBT Foundation.
