How you rated the party leaders in the BBC's Senedd election debate

Adam Price and Mark Drakeford performed best in BBC Wales' Senedd election leaders debate, according to WalesOnline readers.

On Thursday night, BBC Wales held its leaders' debate featuring Mark Drakeford from Labour, Adam Price from Plaid Cymru, Andrew RT Davies from the Conservatives, Jane Dodds from the Liberal Democrats and Richard Suchorzewski from Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party. Following this Nick Servini also spoke to Jamie Jenkins of Reform UK, Amelia Womack of the Green Party and Neil Hamilton of UKIP.

Over 1,300 people have since filled in a WalesOnline survey on how well these leaders performed.

We asked you to rate them out of five for how well they performed (with five being the highest rating).

This graph shows the results with the average score each candidate received:

Amelia Womack from the Green Party came third with the two anti-devolution party leaders Neil Hamilton and Richard Suchorzewski receiving the lowest scores.

Mr Hamilton, who is a documented climate change denier despite the overwhelming scientific consensus to the contrary, was challenged by the Green leader over man made global warming.

The full results were:

  1. Adam Price, Plaid Cymru - 3.2
  2. Mark Drakeford, Welsh Labour - 3.0
  3. Amelia Womack, Green Party - 2.6
  4. Jane Dodds, Welsh Lib Dems - 2.3
  5. Andrew RT Davies, Welsh Conservatives - 2.2
  6. Jamie Jenkins, Reform UK - 1.8
  7. Richard Suchorzewski, Abolish - 1.7
  8. Neil Hamilton, UKIP - 1.5

You can read our analysis of the key talking points from the debate here.

It seems that the debate did not lead to many people coming to a conclusion on how they should cast their vote. When asked "has the BBC's debate changed your decision about who to vote for?", a total of 964 people said no with just 114 saying yes. The rest said they hadn't yet made up their minds.

It is important to bear in mind that this is not a scientific poll. It is just a snap shot of what WalesOnline readers who completed this survey felt. However it is interesting to note that only three leaders, Price, Drakeford and Womack, scored about half marks in terms of performance.

The latest polling data suggests that Labour support is hardening as the vote on May 6 approaches.

Savanta ComRes quizzed 1,002 people and found Labour and Tory support growing, in comparison to previous polls, but Plaid Cymru falling back below 20% and into third place. You can read the full details here.
