The No. 22 Baylor Bears play host to the Texas Tech Red Raiders at McLane Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a crucial Big 12 matchup. One team comes in as a surprise undefeated competitor atop the conference, while the other is coming off a big upset that could push their season onto the right track.

Not many expected Baylor to be 5-0 at this juncture of the season, but here we are. Admittedly, their early season schedule wasn’t the toughest, but they’ve followed up three easy wins to open the season with solid conference wins over Iowa State and more impressively last week against Kansas State. While quarterback Charlie Brewer hasn’t been a superstar, he’s been very solid, especially with his ball security. The junior has yet to throw an interception in the Bears fives games.
Texas Tech may have found themselves a star quarterback at the perfect time. Junior Jeff Duffey came in last week against then-ranked Oklahoma State. His 424 yards through the air with four touchdowns sparked the Red Raiders’ upset over OSU. The performance was enough to earn Duffey the Davy O’Brien national Quarterback of the Week Award.
While Baylor may be favored at home by 11 points, Duffey’s emergence and early success should have Tech’s confidence on the rise and ready to pull off another upset. If their defense can replicate their performance in this one, there’s a good chance they can come out on top.
