How to unlock the Alchemy Table and make Healing Potions in Windrose

The world of Windrose is ruthless, and fighting enemies can often hurt you pretty badly. To stay in the fight for longer, take advantage of healing items, such as Bandages and Healing Potions. While Bandages are easy to make, Healing Potions require an Alchemy Table and a few more ingredients.

Here’s how to unlock the Alchemy Table to start making Healing Potions in Windrose.

To unlock the Alchemy Table, progress through the tutorial quest until you unlock a boat. Use the boat to travel to another island, then find and gather Misty Orchid. Look for glowing blue plants – they’re easily visible at night and also make sounds to help you locate them.

Everything in Windrose works through discoveries, so once you have the Misty Orchid, you’ll unlock the Alchemy Table and some of the early potions. After you unlock the Alchemy Table, you can also build upgrades like the Stove and Pot. An upgrade doesn’t replace the main station. Instead, it increases the Alchemy Table’s level and allows you to craft more potions and elixirs.

There are multiple types of Healing Potions you can make in Windrose. For all of them, you need Clay and Misty Orchid. Clay is very common on the first island. Misty Orchid doesn’t spawn on the first island, so you need to travel a bit to get it.

With Clay and Misty Orchid, you can craft a Clay Bottle and then an Alchemical Base. Alchemical Base is used for all sorts of potions, not only healing ones. As you discover more alchemy ingredients, you’ll need more Alchemical Base if you want to use them.

Minor Healing Potion

Minor Healing Potion is available immediately after you discover the Alchemy Table. It’s cheap to make and restores 35 percent of your health. Every day or so, you can also talk to Doctor Galen at your camp to get free Minor Healing Potions.

Here’s how to craft a Minor Healing Potion:

  • Alchemical Base x1

Healing Potion

A larger Healing Potion restores 55 percent of your health and has multiple crafting recipes. It also requires the Stove and Pot upgrade. To discover either of the recipes, you need to find Undead Essence or Healing Herbs.

Here’s the first recipe for the Healing Potion:

  • Alchemical Base x1
  • Undead Essence x2

Here’s the second recipe for the Healing Potion:

  • Alchemical Base x1
  • Healing Herbs x3

Undead Essence drops from monsters that spawn at night or near some points of interest. Some of the early monsters include Thorn Fiddlers (they drop one Undead Essence) and Drowned (they drop two Undead Essence).

Healing Herbs can be harder to come by, as those spawn primarily in Ancient Ruins. One of the early locations to get them is the two Ancient Ruins on the north side of the starting island. The western ruin has a Cellar that can have Healing Herbs, and those respawn over time.
