This book is about a girl called Stella who is determined not to enjoy herself at summer holiday camp, while her stepfather and mum are on holiday. But she finds herself having more of a good time than she expected.
She has a big fear of swimming but makes friends with the brigadier (the person who is in charge of the camp) and he teaches her the friendly way of how to swim. Stella also makes a few friends called Marzipan, Alan and Rosemary. Stella makes friends with Rosemary when she and Alan pull Rosemary’s toy donkey out of a smelly cowpat and make it clean for her.
In the night she also hears a horrible wailing noise and is determined to find out what it is. It turns out to be a hurt fox who is being looked after by the cleaning lady.
This is a hilarious book and I loved it because it was like a real–life story. It didn’t take long to read as it was quite a short book but it was very enjoyable and exciting to read. I would rate this book 4/5.
