How to Mine and Use Crystals in Hytale

If you've spotted some shiny little Crystals in your cave explorations but every time you try to mine them, they break (and not in a good a way)? Well that's because you aren't using the correct tools. We're here to help you learn exactly how to mine Crystals as well as how to use them.

Crystals in Hytale come in various colors, but they all work the same way. They break if you aren't careful and then you can't pick them up. If you want to have them, you will first have to craft the correct tool. In order to mine any Crystal in Hytale, you need to craft an Iron Pickaxe first.

To do so, you first have to craft a Workbench for x4 of Any Tree Trunk and x4 of Any Stone. You can find either of those at spawn. Once you've placed down the Workbench, open it and go to the second tab with the Tools. To craft an Iron Pickaxe in Hytale you need the following materials.

Required Material How to Get
x5 Iron Ingot - Forge Iron at the Furnace
- From our exploration, Iron ours spawn more in the Badlands biome (desert like zone on your map)
x2 Light Leather - Obtained after Tanning Light Hide on the Tanning Rack
- You can get it from small animals like Cows, which roam around the Forest near spawn area
x2 Linen Scrap - Drops from Skeletons
- These are a common mob in the Forest around spawn

When you have the Iron Pickaxe, just start exploring the caves. If you see a colorful glow in the distance (not lava glow), head towards it. When you mine Crystals with the Iron Pickaxe, they will drop Crystal Shards. You can also get Green Crystal Shards from the Earthen Golem that guards the Forgotten Temple Gateway (it does respawn, I know since I keep bullying it).

How to Use Crystals in Hytale

Crystals aren't used for crafting special items or weapons in Hytale, instead they are used for decoration. If you are tired of just lighting up the area with Torches, then these Crystals are perfect for you.

Once you have Crystal Shards, head back to your base. Keep in mind that you do need to have the Builder's Workbench for this (x6 Any Tree Trunk and x3 Any Stone) .You can craft:

  • Small Crystals
  • Medium Crystals
  • Large Crystals
  • Crystal Blocks

While you can dismantle a bunch of items in Hytale, sadly the Crystals cannot be distmantled so be careful when crafting. I'm totally not talking about this from experience, and I totally don't have around 15 Small Green Crystals that I have no idea what to do with.

FAQ

What do I do with Crystal Shards?

If you've found Crystal Shards while out and about, you can use them for crafting at the Builder's Workbench. They are used for decoration.

Why does my Crystal keep breaking?

If you can't pick up a Crystal, that means you are using the wrong tool. You need an Iron Pickaxe if you want to get it.

What do I do with Small Crystals?

So far, there seems to be nothing you can do after crafting Small Crystals. We will keep testing it out and let you know ASAP. Until then they are getting shoved into a chest so I don't have to look at my mistakes.

When it comes to mining Ore, you have to know where to look. You can check out our Iron Farm guide for this essential Ore. You can also check out our entire Hytale section which we will be updating with new articles!
