How to make a Copper Golem in Minecraft

When the Copper Golem lost the Minecraft Live vote in 2021, we thought it was the end for this mob. Luckily, Mojang decided to create and introduce them anyway, and you can now bring a Copper Golem to life in Minecraft.

Since it's a newer mob that wasn't always present in the game, there's a good chance you're not familiar with how to find and interact with this creature. They're by far some of the most helpful allies you can have at your side, so here's how to make a Copper Golem in Minecraft.

How to craft a Copper Golem in Minecraft

You can make a Copper Golem by placing one carved pumpkin block on top of one regular block of copper. There are lots of different copper block variants, and you can use copper at any oxidation stage to spawn this creature. This includes:

  • Block of copper
  • Exposed copper
  • Oxidized copper
  • Waxed block of copper
  • Waxed exposed copper
  • Waxed oxidized copper
  • Waxed weathered copper
  • Weathered copper

The Copper Golem and chest take on the appearance of whichever type of copper block you choose. This means you should select the one you want both items to reflect, as you cannot change the appearance of them once they've been created.

Where to find a Copper Golem in Minecraft

Copper Golems don't spawn naturally like most other mobs, so you can't go out in the world and search around to find them. Instead, you must craft one yourself to make this creature appear. You'll never come across a Copper Golem unless you or another player has elected to make one.

What do Copper Golems do in Minecraft?

Copper Golems help you sort your inventory and keep your storage organized. All Copper Golems spawn with a copper chest you can break and pick up to learn the recipe. These chests are special because Copper Golems open and interact with them.

The way their organization system works is that they'll open Copper Chests, grab what's inside, and carry it over to other chests around your base. They organize everything into concise stacks and keep things where you want them to be.

What do copper chests do in Minecraft?

Copper chests function exactly the same as regular ones, except Copper Golems will freely grab from them to sort the items inside elsewhere. If you don't want this mob to interact with them, you'll need to store them away somewhere they can't reach. Otherwise, all Copper Golems will continuously clear them out to put them in the regular chests you have around.

Is the Copper Golem in Minecraft?

At the time of writing, the Copper Golem can only be spawned in Bedrock preview versions of Minecraft and is slated to officially be added in the Fall 2025 update. It will be available to test in Java snapshot versions of Minecraft soon, too. We'll update this guide once they're officially available in the regular version of the game, but for now, you have to play with experimental versions to meet them.

If you're looking to try out other newer gameplay mechanics next, there are plenty to choose from. You may want to try turning on Vibrant Visuals, using the player locator bar, riding a Happy Ghast, and defeating the Creaking.
