How to keep slugs out of your home as cold weather invasion begins

The recent wet weather has made the perfect environment for slugs, with many homeowners noticing a surge of the slimy creatures over the past few weeks.

Homeowners are finding that slugs are starting to invade their homes with a 300% rise in searches for ‘how to keep slugs out of your house”.

Estate Agents Douglas & Gordon have put together 5 top tips that will help you keep slugs at bay this rainy season

Seal All Cracks And Gaps - Grab a couple of tubes of sealant and use it to fill in any cracks in the floor, baseboards, corners, windowsills, or even in the ceiling. If it is more challenging to get in, slugs are likely to move on to somewhere else, and you will prevent an initial invasion.

Copper Tape Barrier - Place copper strips by entry points such as windows or doors to create a barrier which will stop slugs from coming in by giving them a mild electric shock.

Throw Leftover Food Away - Ensure you have no rubbish or leftover food by entry points that are often left open. Slugs have a great sense of smell and will be attracted to leftovers if they are accessible to them.

Coffee Grounds - Slugs dislike the scent of coffee, so placing some coffee grounds at points where you think slugs may be getting in is a humane way to deter them.

Clean Up Your Garden - Masses of leaves, plant pots or rubbish in the garden are the perfect hiding spots for slugs, by ensuring that your garden is as well kept as possible it means there's less chance for any slugs to be making an appearance inside your home
