How to get tickets for Christmas at the Castle’s Ice Walk

Christmas at the Castle will be a lovely way to end 2020 and tickets are already on sale for the Ice Walk attraction that will make up part of the festive fun.

Starting on Thursday, November 12 and running until Sunday, January 3, there is plenty of time to book in for some outdoor meandering on skates around the crafted ice trail which will take you around Cardiff Castle grounds.

Cardiff Castle's usual Christmas programme, like Victorian Santa visits as well as Dining at the Keep and the Lone Stag Bar for drinks, will also be back. We'll let you know as soon as tickets for these events are on sale.

Christmas at the Castle is being managed according to rigorous safety standards designed to allow visitors to enjoy themselves in a Covid-safe, socially-distanced environment.

We've rounded up the essential information  for the Ice Walk and Cardiff Castle visits, here:

How do I get Ice Walk tickets?

Ticket bookings are now being taken here.

Prices start at £9 for children up to 16, also  £9 for students.

Adult tickets are £11 and a family ticket is £35 and that's for two adults and two children, or one adult and three children. You can also book the penguins for smaller children.

Do I have to have a ticket to get into the castle?

You only need a ticket if you are attending one of the organised events, such as the Ice Walk, or one of the in-castle events.

Access to the castle is free for anyone wishing to go in.

Social distancing will be observed throughout, and the operator will run strict cleaning and hygiene regimes at all times.

What's inside the castle?

The Ice Walk, of course, which will have a wider pathway, to allow greater social distancing and limited capacity.

There will also be plenty of outdoor seating for visitors to enjoy the food and drink on offer around the ice, such as sweet treats and a marshmallow firepit.

And outside, on the moat? A 33m high Big Wheel will give riders breath-taking views across the city, and there will also be a small selection of festive family rides and games in that area. In the moat on the other side of the entrance there will be a ‘Ski Hut’ style food and drink seating area with an Alpine resort theme, which will be lit and heated.
