How to get the Lava Chicken music disc in Minecraft

The Minecraft Movie has quite a lot of iconic moments, but by far one of the most memorable ones is Jack Black's ridiculously catchy "Steve's Lava Chicken" song. If you've ever wanted to have this tune playing in your home, now you can, thanks to the Lava Chicken music disc.

Music discs are some of the toughest items to acquire in Minecraft since each one has its own special unlocking process. This is one of the trickier ones to get, but it's much easier once you know what's required, so here's how to get the Lava Chicken music disc in Minecraft.

The Lava Chicken music disc drops when you kill a Chicken Jockey in Minecraft. This is a reference to one of the most iconic scenes from A Minecraft Movie, which is when Jack Black's character Steve warns Jason Momoa's character Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison that a Chicken Jocket is coming towards him. It's less about what he says, as the quote is simply "Chicken Jockey!," and more about the way he says it.

To acquire this item, make sure you kill the Baby Zombie that's riding the Chicken rather than the Chicken itself. Killing the Chicken first changes the Baby Zombie into a regular mob rather than a Chicken Jockey, so you must target the rider rather than the mount if you want to earn this item.

Some items have multiple ways you can earn them, but this isn't one of them. Finding and eliminating a Chicken Jockey is the only way to get this item, so if you want to add this disc to your collection, you need to get to work tracking one down.

How to find a Chicken Jockey in Minecraft

Chicken Jockeys can randomly be found around the world in Minecraft. Like most other mobs, there's not really any way to make finding them easier. Instead, you just have to explore and hope you come across one.

  • In Java Edition, Chicken Jockeys can spawn naturally just about anywhere in the world.
  • In Bedrock Edition, Chicken Jockeys don't spawn naturally, but Baby Zombies may sometimes choose to mount nearby Chickens.

If you're not having any luck finding a naturally spawned Chicken Jockey, you can also cheat to summon one. Open the chat box and use the following commands to force one to spawn near you.

  • On Java Edition, you can cheat to summon a Chicken Jockey by using the following command:
    • /summon chicken ~ ~ ~ {Passengers:[{id:zombie,IsBaby:1}]}
  • On Bedrock Edition, the process is a bit more complex, as you have to enter two commands in a row to spawn a Chicken Jockey:
    • /summon chicken
    • /ride @e[type=chicken,c=1] summon_rider zombie minecraft:as_baby

What does the Lava Chicken music disc sound like in Minecraft?

The Lava Chicken music disc is essentially a music-only extended version of the "Steve's Lava Chicken" song Jack Black sings in A Minecraft Movie. Since A Minecraft Movie isn't a musical, the original song is only about 50 seconds long. In Minecraft, about the first 50 seconds are the beat he sings to, then the rest of the disc essentially extends upon the base of this song.
