Although warm drinks and food are important, nothing in Cairn is more vital than having a few pitons in your backpack. After all, they are your main safety line and can guarantee Aava will be back in action in no time, even after a hard fall.
True to that, knowing how to get new ones and, most importantly, repair the many you are bound to break during the ascent, is a must. Don’t worry, though, it’s easier than it seems. Here’s how to get new pitons, repair your used ones, and where to find the sought-after indestructible pitons in Cairn.

How To Get And Repair Pitons In Cairn
Apart from your starting selection of six, you can get pitons in Cairn by collecting them as loot, with the first one being available at the Training Center, right by the Optional Challenge Reward bag. When in Aava’s tent, you can then repair your used ones by interacting with Climbot. As you can see below, every repair will demand two sets of piton scraps, acquired either as loot or by collecting them after a missplace.

If you are having trouble perfectly placing your pitons when under pressure or harsh conditions, you can also skip the quick time event and always succeed by heading to Settings and then scrolling down to Accessibility Options. While at it, make sure to also enable Manual Limb Selection for an extra boost in control and the ability to prioritize the moves you see fit when in emergencies.
How To Get The Indestructible Piton In Cairn

The only type of piton capable of penetrating harder walls, you can get troglodyte (or indestructible) pitons in Cairn by collecting them from within their respective guardian statues across Kami. In total, you can find three statues, located in The Vault, The Ancient, and The Secret portions of the mountain. Be aware, though, as getting all requires straying from the main path, even if a little. The pitons will also count toward your maximum limit of six.
All Troglodyte Piton Guardian Statue Locations
- Can be found by heading left of The Standing Stones campsite. Easy to find given The Child bivouac point.
- Can be found below the bridge leading to The Palace of Wind
- Can then be found within the main path in The Secret. Unlike the above, the statue is hard to miss.
