If you’re playing (or planning to play) Forza Horizon 6 on PC (Steam or Xbox app), chances are, you will encounter the “Invalid Game Services Detected” error when booting the game. If that happens, you will get the following text alongside the error pop-up:
“Forza Horizon 6 must be run with a later version of Gaming Services. It has been detected that your system is running an older version. Please close the game and update Gaming Services.”
The official Forza Support team insists you need to download the Gaming Services update before you can start playing Forza Horizon 6.
If you have never installed Gaming Services before or haven’t updated it in a while, fret not. Below, we explain how to do both and fix Forza Horizon 6’s Invalid Game Services Detected error.
How to download and update Gaming Services to play Forza Horizon 6

You can download Gaming Services on PC from the Microsoft Store. If you can’t find it via the search option, it’s likely already installed. Simply check the Library and look for Gaming Services in the Apps section.
To update the application, follow the steps written below:
- Select “Downloads” from the lower-left side of the Microsoft Store.
- Click “Check for updates” in the top-right corner of the page.
- Find Gaming Services and click on update.
Please note that you at least need Gaming Services version 36.113.2002 to run Forza Horizon 6.
To check the version you currently have installed, open Gaming Services from the library and scroll down to look for the “additional information” section. Here, you can see the app’s version. If you just installed or updated Gaming Services, it should be version 36.113.2002 or higher.
And that’s pretty much it! It should fix Forza Horizon 6’s Invalid Game Services Detected error. In case you didn’t know, Gaming Services is a background application that checks game licenses and manages Xbox Network Integration. While you’re not, why not check our Forza Horizon 6 review?
