Timo Werner could be just the player that Chelsea needs but that doesn’t mean Frank Lampard will rest on his laurels this summer.
The 24-year-old Germany international has been sensational for RB Leipzig this season, with 25 Bundesliga goals and another eight assists during the campaign.
Lampard has often bemoaned his side’s lack of cutting edge over the course of the 2019/20 campaign, with the Blues often failing to take their chances.
The introduction of Werner, along with the signing of Hakim Ziyech joining the Blues for the upcoming campaign, could change that.
Tammy Abraham is set to be another key player for the Blues once again next season after an encouraging full debut season for the Blues.
Michy Batshuayi is set to head out the door if the Blues can find a buyer, while the club decided to take up the option of securing Olivier Giroud for another season.
Even though Giroud has that deal, it doesn’t mean he couldn’t be sold this summer, which could open up another slot in the squad.
As well as Werner, Chelsea have been linked with several strikers as a potential signing when the transfer window opens.
Werner may have filled a big hole in Chelsea’s squad and his ability to play along the front line gives Lampard the flexibility in his squad, something he was keen to add.
The Blues will be keen to keep an eye on any other potential transfers that they might be able to snap up.
However, the signing of Werner would most likely mean that Chelsea’s focus will move over to other positions.
With Ziyech and Werner, the Blues will have two forwards coming in this summer, and now the attention will be on other positions.
While Jadon Sancho has been linked with a move to the Blues, if Werner is finally announced then it’s unlikely the funding will available for another big-money move.
The left- back position is a role which is going to be highly sought after by Lampard and that is likely to be where the focus will be shifted.
The Blues have been linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Moussa Dembele, but Werner being completed would likely mean those deals would be parked, unless they can get an exceptional deal.
