How social distancing will work at Hardwick Hall's weekend festival with Heather Small

As music fans finally get to enjoy the return of outdoor gigs, Hardwick Hall Hotel in County Durham is gearing up for its own first big weekend of action.

This Saturday will see M People star Heather Small take to the stage in the grounds of the hotel as it launches a new series of summer festival events.

The programme will run up to September 13 and gets under way on Friday with Coldplay UK and The Jam'd who will be getting the ball rolling on a string of tribute acts.

Among the other upcoming shows will be chart-topper Gabrielle, DJs, singalongs and treats for youngsters.

Festival-goers will be able to enjoy the entertainment from their own private booths which, like the current set-up for the series of gigs at the specially-built Virgin Money Unity Arena in Newcastle, will be socially-distanced.

Some options include indoor and outdoor seating and even a butler service and there will be bars and big-screen TVs.

Here's how Covid-19 safety measures will work

Individual socially-distanced viewing areas have been set up on the site of the County Durham hotel, which overlooks Hardwick Country Park lake.

Booths, with seating and umbrellas, can accommodate up to six people.

There will be a one-way system in place in the grounds, limits placed on access, staggered arrival and departure times, multiple hand sanitisation stations and designated toilets areas.

Trained stewards and staff will be on-site to maintain strict social distancing.

Temperature checks and track-and-trace details will be taken and face coverings and gloves will be available if wanted.

Festival-goers will be able to order food and drink on a special app and have it delivered directly to them.

The site will be decontaminated by a NHS -trained team before, during and after each event.

In planning the event, John Adamson, owner of the hotel whose annual Hardwick Live festival has been postponed until next year, said: "Everyone has felt the loss of not being to enjoy any live entertainment for the past four months and been disappointed that major festivals have been cancelled.

"We’ve worked really hard to put together a fantastic programme of events with someone for everyone and at really reasonable prices."

He added: "At the same time we have put in place a detailed plan to ensure that social distancing is maintained and that these events are taking place in a safe environment."

Booths range in price from £60-£180 with some including VIP options and options for four or six people.
