How six players who left Man City in the summer have fared since

Manchester City are renowned for being big-spenders in the off-season and will always look to improve their squad as they look to continue the dominance they've enjoyed under Pep Guardiola.

This past summer was no different, as City broke the Premier League transfer record in bringing in Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for £100 million.

But as is the way in football, when one player enters the club, another is left on the outside looking in — and becomes surplus to requirements.

City aren't a team to let their better players go in the transfer window, but will always sell a few first-team players to recoup money spent on incomings.

Here, we take a look at those players who left in the summer of 2021 and evaluate how well they've played at their new clubs.

Sergio Aguero

Beginning with some extraordinarily bad news, with Sergio Aguero potentially on the verge of retiring, with heart problems seemingly ending the Argentine’s career at just 33.

The City legend and record goalscorer left the club in the summer, joining Barcelona on a two-year deal.

But he played just four times for the Catalan giants before coming off after suffering with chest pains.

Aguero was then diagnosed with a ‘cardiac arrhythmia’ — or irregular heartbeat.

He has since confirmed he would be out for the foreseeable future under the advice of medical professionals.

In light of speculation that he was set to retire, he offered an update on social media which read: "Given the rumours, I tell them that I am following the indications of the club's doctors, doing tests and treatment and seeing my progress within 90 days. Always positive."

Eric Garcia

The young defender returned to his hometown club this past summer after rejecting numerous contract offers to remain with City.

Although joining as a youth team prospect, Garcia enjoyed a run of games in the first-team, and ended the 2019/20 season as first-choice centre-back alongside Aymeric Laporte.

However, the young Spaniard was never too pleased with being fifth choice at the Etihad and returned to Barcelona on a free transfer. He has made 11 league appearances so far this season, featuring alongside Gerard Pique and performing well.

Garcia looks to be ahead of French centre-back Samuel Umtiti and is battling with Clement Lenglet for a first-team spot at Camp Nou.

Jack Harrison

Yes, Leeds United winger Jack Harrison was indeed a City player last season.

The tricky English winger was bought from City's unofficial sister team New York City FC — with City's owners also owning the US outfit.

Harrison never made a first-team appearance for City, spending his time on loan at Middlesbrough in his first year before a two-year loan at Leeds.

His move was made permanent this year, where he continues to be a key player for the West Yorkshire club, although he's spent time out injured this season.

Lucas & Felix Nmecha

The German brothers both left the club this season to go to VFL Wolfsburg, with Felix leaving on a free transfer and Lukas sold for £12 million.

Lukas made just two appearances at City with Felix failing to ever make the first-team.

They've both been impressive since joining the German side, though, with Lukas scoring five goals in 13 games and being picked by the German national side.

Felix has made four appearances, used largely as a rotational player.

Ivan Ilic

The highly rated Serbian was never e able to establish himself in the first-team after training with Pep Guardiola's side throughout his time at the club.

Ilic left the club for Hellas Verona for £8 million in the summer, while his brother, Luka, remains at the club.

He has impressed in Seria A, becoming a starting player for the northern Italian side.
