How Pep Guardiola reacted to Liverpool's late winner against Tottenham

Pep Guardiola turned the air blue when he revealed his reaction to Liverpool's late winner against Tottenham .

Toby Alderweireld's 89th-minute own goal at Anfield gave Liverpool a 2-1 win over Spurs on Sunday that saw them return to the top of the Premier League, two points ahead of title rivals Manchester City , who have a game in hand.

Asked for his reaction to Liverpool's late goal, Guardiola said: “When you see them you think “ah s***”', but no-one said it would be easy.

“We knew it, I knew it. It's a better challenge. It's an incredible team to fight against.”

City, who have won their last 12 games in all competitions, can return to the top of the table with victory over relegation-threatened Cardiff at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow.

They will have to do so without star striker Sergio Aguero, who has not trained for the past two days and who is also a doubt for Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Brighton .

“He didn’t train the last two days,” said Guardiola. “Tomorrow he is not able to play.

“Hopefully next Saturday, next Wednesday. We will see his evolution in the next few days.”

Gabriel Jesus will come in for Aguero and Guardiola said the young Brazil striker is ready to lead City's attack, despite an indifferent season in which he has struggled to score consistently.

Asked if Jesus was ready, Guarduola said: “Of course. He makes a good season. Always it is not easy to play in this club, a striker in the same position as Sergio.

“The best season he has been together with Sergio is this one. He is a respectful guy. Tomorrow he is going to help us and fight and score goals.”
