How Notts County players made manager Neal Ardley proud in Halifax win

Notts County manager Neal Ardley said he was proud of his players after the 10-men Magpies overcame Michael Doyle’s red card to earn a 1-0 win over Halifax.

Doyle was dismissed for a challenge on Charlie Cooper early in the second half of the National League clash which appeared to tip the balance in the Shaymen’s favour.

But Notts produced a superb display despite the disadvantage and claimed all three points thanks to Kyle Wootton’s second goal in as many games.

The Magpies had chances to increase the daylight between the teams with Wes Thomas flashing a great opportunity over the bar not long after.

At the other end, Notts gave little encouragement for Halifax and confidently saw out the latter stages to make it one defeat in their last eight games.

And Ardley hailed his players for the way they controlled the game after the disappointment of seeing their captain sent off for the second time this season.

“The right word is proud,”  said Ardley.

“From the moment we had the sending off, I thought we were the better team.

“Myself and Neil Cox have developed a way of playing against 10 men over the years, and when the players execute it as they did, you get that sort of result.

“There was a tweak in shape and what it does is encourage the boys to play and not get into defence mode.

“They did it really, really, well and I thought we could have had more than just the one goal.”
