After 72 holes of top-quality action at the Irish Open, two players, Joakim Lagergren and Rory McIlroy, couldn't be separated thanks to the latter dramatically holing a long eagle putt on the 18th of his final round.
That took the two to a playoff, with the pair matching each other until the decisive moment, when, on the third extra hole at the 18th, Lagergren found the water to the left of the green with his second shot.
McIlroy held his nerve, completing his birdie and leaving his opponent needing to find the hole with his birdie attempt. It rolled wide, and McIlroy had his second Irish Open title. But how much prize money did his thrilling victory bring?
As far as payouts on the DP World Tour go, the tournament has one of the biggest of the season.
Each of the DP World Tour's Rolex Series events, which includes the Playoffs and the Major championships, offers more money. However, the Irish Open is only matched by the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Just like the past two seasons, there was a $6m prize purse with $1.02m going to McIlroy.
For Lagergren, who won the 2018 Rocco Forte Sicilian Open, the wait for a second DP World Tour title continues, but while his near miss will hurt, his bank balance has received a significant boost, with the Swede earning $660,000.
Aside from McIlroy and Legergren, the top-12 at The K Club will earn a six-figure payout for their troubles, while even those who finished towards the foot of the leaderboard after four rounds collect over $10,000.
As well as dollars, each of the players who made the cut were fighting it out for the lion's share of 5,000 Race To Dubai points during the second tournament of the DP World Tour's Back 9 section.
