How Liverpool's Convention Centre will be used during the Eurovision Song Contest

The BBC has officially moved into the M&S Bank Arena for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The M&S Arena will welcome thousands of fans from across Europe to deliver one of the biggest events in the world, meaning surrounding facilities will also have to bear the load of the contest.

Faye Dyer, managing director of the M&S Arena, confirmed to the Liverpool Echo that the Convention Centre and auditorium will act as key parts of delivering the contest. She said: “We’re building commentator booths, we're building the green room at the back, which is where other delegations are going to sit."

She also said that the ground floor of the convention centre will be used for prop storage. She added: “Our auditorium will be where we host the press conferences, and then we move across into the exhibition centre, that's going to have things like hair and makeup, hospitality, and crew catering. So, every single inch of the campus has been used. We've got 27 dressing rooms just for the delegations!

“We've had to move some of our back-of-house office spaces to make sure that we can fully meet the needs of the BBC, and make sure that we are supporting them and making this the best Eurovision ever."

Faye said the arena has held countless shows and welcomed more than 10m guests in its short life but the Eurovision Song Contest will be one of the most ambitious and exciting events Liverpool has ever seen.
