How Liverpool could line up vs Brighton after Jurgen Klopp's international break boosts

So far the international break hasn't been a bad one for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds went into the hiatus - a longer one than usual after they saw their last two Premier League matches postponed - with worries over several players, with midfield in particular the greatest area of concern.

However, the break has seen some players get some much needed healing and rest time, while others have managed a few minutes for their countries as they search for match sharpness.

It all adds up to Klopp having probably the strongest group of players he's had all season at his disposal when Brighton visit Anfield on Saturday, but how will he line up against new boss Roberto De Zerbi's Seagulls side?

We've taken a look.

Goalkeeper and defence

Alisson played 90 minutes in Brazil's 3-0 win over Ghana in Le Havre on Friday evening, so it could well be that he drops out of the side for Ederson for Tuesday night's clash with Tunisia, as boss Tite likes to rotate his goalkeepers even though it is the Liverpool man who is No.1.

Either way, the fact that the match is in Paris means the stopper will be back on Merseyside in plenty of time.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has had a much publicised breather during the international break so he'll be ready to go and be looking to prove a few people wrong, while Joel Matip's self-imposed exile from the Cameroon squad now stands at seven years. He'll be in high spirits after his winner against Ajax.

Virgil van Dijk was also on the scoresheet on Sunday when he headed the Netherlands' winner against Belgium. The centre-back will be well-rested with no midweek game to speak of.

Left-back is probably the only selection conundrum for Klopp, with the Reds boss only confirming that Andy Robertson was out "until after the international break" prior to the Ajax game, which turned out to be the only one he missed after the Chelsea clash was postponed.

If he is on the cusp of fitness then the Scotland captain will surely have an eye on the Champions League clash with Rangers next week, meaning that Kostas Tsimikas could keep hold of his place.

Tsimikas played 90 minutes in Greece's 1-0 defeat in Cyprus on Saturday, and faces Northern Ireland in Athens on Tuesday evening.

Midfield

The sight of Jordan Henderson sprinting around Wembley for the final few minutes of England's friendly draw with Germany would have buoyed Klopp, who was clearly happy for his captain to go away with the national team and pick up some extra fitness after missing Liverpool's last three games.

With Fabinho looking somewhat leggy of late, it could be that Henderson is seen in the No.6 position against Brighton as the Brazilian is given a rest. He got half an hour in his nation's friendly against Ghana, and so could now start against Tunisia in Paris on Tuesday night.

Thiago Alcantara hasn't been with the Spain squad during this break, allowing him a good rest and to build up fitness back at Liverpool where he is so important.

Harvey Elliott played the final 18 minutes of England under-21s' 2-0 win in Italy on Thursday, and he is still with the squad ahead of Tuesday night's game against Germany at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane.

The clash is only a friendly and so if he does start then Elliott is unlikely to play 90 minutes, and he'll then have a short trip back to Merseyside to prepare for Brighton.

Attack

With no World Cup to prepare for, Egypt have done Liverpool a favour by releasing Mo Salah from international duty ahead of their Tuesday friendly with Liberia.

Salah scored twice in Friday's 3-0 win over Niger and returns to Anfield looking to build on his goal against Ajax.

He'll be the first name on the teamsheet, but elsewhere in attack things are a little trickier to predict.

Roberto Firmino's recall to the Brazil squad didn't include him featuring against Ghana, so you'd think he'll get at least some action against Tunisia in Paris on Tuesday night in a last-gasp bid to make the squad for Qatar.

After starting against Ajax, Diogo Jota came off the bench and scored against the Czech Republic on Saturday, and he's likely to be involved again as Portugal take on Spain in Braga, where a point would secure a place in the Nations League finals. He'll be back to Liverpool in good time though and will be vying for a start at the weekend.

That leaves the final place in the attack, but given Luis Diaz is the final one of Liverpool's players in action for their countries then his place isn't secure.

After 64 minutes against Guatemala in New Jersey at the weekend, Diaz will play for Colombia against Mexico in California at 3am Wednesday UK time before his long journey back to Merseyside.

That opens up the possibility that he starts on the bench at the weekend, with Darwin Nunez making what would be only a third Premier League start.

Nunez played in Uruguay's 1-0 defeat to Iran in Austria last weekend, and will be involved when they face Canada in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, on Tuesday with a 5pm UK time kick-off.

That extra time plus the short flight means he could be back on Merseyside while Diaz is still playing for Colombia, which may tip the balance in his favour.
