How important Elland Road matchdays are to Leeds United's finances

Leeds United are at the top of the Championship for attendance as well as football, with an average of 34,000 fans piling into Elland Road for every home game prior to the coronavirus pandemic bringing a halt to the 2019/20 season.

Matchdays help bring in a sizeable amount of revenue for the club, especially when hospitality packages and cup (and, last season, play-off) games are added to the regular league programme.

According to recently-released financial results for the year ended 30 June 2019, the club’s revenues grew to a level never before seen from a second-tier club not in receipt of parachute payments.

And the average attendances, up from 31,521 to 34,033 across the 2017/18 campaign, played their part as more fans flocked to the ground to watch Marcelo Bielsa’s team compared to the squads of his immediate predecessors.
