How good is rumoured Liverpool transfer target Moussa Marega? We asked Football Manager

The transfer window is open and with Liverpool possibly looking to recruit a new forward, there are no shortage of attacking players being linked.

One of the latest is Porto striker Moussa Marega who came up against the Reds in the Champions League earlier this season.

Despite not getting on the scoresheet in either leg of the quarter-final tie, he was a lively presence in attack.

Had his finishing been more accurate, especially in the match in Portugal, he could well have made even more of an impression.

The Mali international notched 17 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions during the last campaign.

With the Reds hoping to bring in a versatile front man to add strength in depth to the squad, could he be a solution?

This is how he rates on Football Manager...

Moussa Marega - Porto

Current Ability: 139/200

Potential Ability: 139/200

Positions: AMR/ST

Top Attributes (out of 20): Strength (18), natural fitness (18), pace (17), determination (17), acceleration (16), balance (16), stamina (16), bravery (16), movement (16), finishing (15), jumping reach (15), aggression (15), anticipation (15), work rate (15).

Moussa Marega's profile on Football Manager 2019 (Football Manager 2019)

According to Football Manager 2019, Marega has a very different profile to Liverpool's current striking options.

The likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri and Rhian Brewster are all technically gifted players who can both create and score goals.

Yes, they have strong physical attributes, but their technical qualities are far more important to their game.

Marega's strengths like in his physical attributes, including speed, strength, fitness, jumping and work rate.

He does have a high finishing attribute, at 15 out of 20, but his passing, dribbling, first touch and technique are all some way below the standard of Liverpool's current forward options.

The 28-year-old has a current ability of 139 out of 200 on Football Manager 2019. To put this into context, that's below the likes of Divock Origi (145), Shaqiri (150) and well below Firmino (172) and Salah (180).

He's closer to Harry Wilson (134) and Ben Woodburn (126) than he is to Salah and co.

And, FM believes that he won't improve any further, as he's potential ability is also 139 out of 200.

Football Manager 2019 tells us that Marega wouldn't really improve the Liverpool squad and he wouldn't really fit into how Jurgen Klopp likes his side to play.

If judging by FM's verdict, it appears there are better options out there than Marega for Liverpool this summer.
