How Gini Wijnaldum reacted to leaving Liverpool for PSG

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has opened up on the feelings Gini Wijnaldum went through when deciding to leave the club.

It was confirmed earlier this month that Wijnaldum would leave Anfield after five years at the club, and join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The move comes after the Dutchman made 237 appearances in a Liverpool shirt during his five years on Merseyside, winning four trophies along the way.

Adrian recently signed a new contract at Liverpool, and the experienced stopper has revealed the emotions Wijnaldum felt when deciding to call time on his Anfield stint.

“Gini is a tremendously versatile footballer,” Adrian told Marca.

“He can play in a double pivot, as a defensive midfielder, or even as a playmaker, as now with the Netherlands.

“He is very complete. Technically good, fast, strong and, above all, he scores goals.

“He is a born fighter, he does not stop working for the team and he does not give away the ball.

“Of the pitch, he is top. As they say in England, he is world-class as a footballer and as a person.

“It has not been easy for him to take the step of leaving Liverpool to sign for PSG.

"He was one of the heavyweights of the squad, but he finally decided to go free and start a new adventure.”
