Sunderland's performance may have improved at Doncaster last weekend, but the much-needed three points didn't follow as they were denied by a late, late equaliser.
The 1-1 draw means it's just two wins in the last League One fixtures for Phil Parkinson's side - and no win in their last four in all competitions.
The two cup defeats - 1-0 to Mansfield in the FA Cup and 2-1 at Fleetwood in the Papa John's Trophy - may mean little come the end of the season, but it's a downturn in form Parkinson could do without.
The challenge doesn't get any easier as the Black Cats return to the Highbury Stadium on Friday night, albeit when two very different XIs will battle it out, as Joey Barton has his Fleetwood side flying right now.
However, the December fixture list is, on paper, decidedly easier for Sunderland.
Bottom two Burton and Wigan are next up at the Stadium of Light with a trip to third-bottom Shrewsbury also on the horizon.
Of the sides challenging at the top end of the table, only Lincoln are on the Black Cats' radar in the coming weeks, along with matches against mid-table AFC Wimbledon and Blackpool.
