How Celtic stars reacted to Marcelo Saracchi's transfer statement

Four Celtic stars past and present reacted on Instagram after left-back Marcelo Saracchi confirmed he won't be re-joining the club.

Saracchi took to the social media platform on Friday evening to voice his frustration.

"Dear Celtic fans, I'm writing this to say goodbye," Saracchi said.

"We had an intense, beautiful year together where we achieved so many of our goals.

"My agent and I did absolutely everything within our power to make a return to Glasgow happen.

"I'm truly gutted that I won't be able to continue at the club at this stage of my career. However, I know our paths will cross again in the future.

"I wish you all nothing but the best for what's ahead. Thank you for everything."

Replying to the statement, winger Sebastian Tounekti wrote, 'Will miss you, bro'.

Daizen Maeda reacted with a love heart emoji, while Paulo Bernardo wrote 'Hermano', which translates to 'brother'.

Julian Araujo, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic from Bournemouth, said, 'All the best, brother'.

Asked about missing out on Saracchi's services for the new season after yesterday's 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough, manager Martin O'Neill said: "[There are] two sides to every story.

"I jokingly said after he made the goal against Hearts that I would give him a 26-year deal I think at the time. I think that might have been a slight exaggeration, but it's happened, players have gone.

"What I would say about Saracchi, I think he's done really well at the football club and I think there were just circumstances in which it seemingly was never going to happen."
